FAQ

Making a move to another country is a big step. Here are some of the questions and answers Worldteachers get asked about working in UAE:

There are three steps in the application process:

  • A) Send your latest CV which must include details of each of your teaching jobs
  • B) Complete the application form by clicking here
  • C) Emailing a head and shoulders photo – passport style on plain light background

Once your full details are submitted, you will receive confirmation from one of the Worldteachers team to confirm a date and time for interview. The next dates are New Delhi on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March, and in Mumbai on Sunday 31 March and Monday 1 April.

Our team will provide you with a result of your interview, usually within 2 weeks and help guide you through the full process up to emailing your flight ticket and visa.

The whole process from interview to start date takes 2-4 months so the most likely start dates will be from end of July through to August and September. Teachers start at most months in the year so there is some flexibility around when you start.

Teachers coming from India should be on the same salary of AED16,000 per month. That is a tax free total. They cover your medical insurance and provide you with the flight ticket and work visa before you start. The salary is a total figure so you are responsible for paying for your own accommodation and other expenses out of the total tax free salary.

For graduates applying, we have not had official confirmation of the expected starting salary and we will let you know as soon as this is decided.

There is no education allowance so you would need to carry out your own research on cost of schooling. It is possibly not a big financial benefit if only one of the spouses are earning as you have to pay for accommodation, private school fees and all other family living expenses. Many teachers from India choose to live on their own and by living a modest but very safe and comfortable lifestyle, can send a very large amount of money home.

It really is up to you. The nature of this contract means that you will not know which school you will be working at until you first arrive in UAE. It is not a big country and you can choose exactly where you live and how much you spend. Many teachers make friends very quickly and end up sharing accommodation which allows the teachers to save even more. There are a lot of websites to give information about types and cost of accommodation as well as typical living expenses.

Younger children are taught Maths in Arabic so you will be teaching Secondary/High School age children.

You MUST have a degree in your teaching subject e.g. BSc in Mathematics and be a qualified teacher e.g. BEd or PGCE in Education.

It is important to the long term economy that children are given every chance to go into a diverse range of careers with Maths and Science subjects seen as very relevant to diversifying their economy. The private education sector can dominate some part of the education sector in UAE and there is a concern that this may not be sustainable in the long term for the UAE economy so the quality of education provision in the public state owned schools has to be continually enhanced. Teachers from India are renowned for their excellent technical knowledge in subjects such as Maths and all Sciences, and this is highly sought after in the UAE schools.

Worldteachers has been working with the Ministry of Education for over 4 years and have helped many teachers from India find jobs in the UAE schools. Some teachers say “my parents think this must be a scam” – it is true and it is good. Worldteachers are not charging the teachers so how could there possibly be a scam. You can do research on Worldteachers – look at our public profiles and you will see plenty of examples of how we work with schools all round the world. We have teachers who joined the MoE over two years ago and have signed extensions to their contracts on an annual rolling contract basis.

Initially the contracts have been for two years. We do consider the jobs to be like a permanent job – if you do well and want to stay then we would expect the job to keep going, more or less as long as you want to. We also have had some teachers whose circumstances change, for example with family matters, and they are obviously able to resign and leave the position.

There are fairly standard school holidays, as well as religious and national holidays, and we will give the latest dates around the time of issuing you with your job offer, if successful.

The next dates are New Delhi on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March, and in Mumbai on Sunday 31 March and Monday 1 April. We will contact you asking you to book a date and time. Please keep a date free in anticipation of being invited.
